So many well-meaning Christians have said the sinner's prayer without truly understanding what it means. How can we mean what we don't understand? The prayer seems simple, but it is much more than what we've previously thought. This topic will focus on the first part of the sinner's prayer.
We have likely said or have led other people to say "Lord Forgive Me of My Sins", but do we really understand what sin is? Do we understand how we have sinned and why we need forgiveness? A lot of times when we think of sin, we think of big sins like murder or adultery, but what about the sin of rebellion? In 1 Samuel 15:23 the Bible says, "Rebellion is the sin of witchcraft." Rebellion is simply resisting God's authority and control in your life which God compares to witchcraft. God has a perfect will and way that He wants for each of our lives, and when we resist, we are committing the sin of rebellion.
However, once we confront this rebellion in our lives and hearts, other sins will become easier to overcome, and we can begin to walk in what God has called us to. Although God has unique callings for each of us, it is clear in His Word that He wants us to become a disciple and also make disciples. In the Great Commission we are commanded to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and to teach them to obey the commandments of Jesus Christ.
In this topic, Paztuh Mike will break down the first part of the sinner's prayer, "Lord, Forgive Me of My Sins." He will go into detail of the most common but less talked about sin, rebellion, and help us to understand how to turn away from it, and follow God's plan for our lives.
